Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Patriots won the night they stopped Singleton from sliding. Grade: A-.

The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 100 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

Reaching for Rivers left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the 36th pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick46 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick 47 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick48 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell slid further than he should have, and slot 48 is lovely value for the linebacker. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick62 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
You do not let a tight end like Harold Fannin Jr. reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick64 Rnd2 Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick66 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at the 66th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Donovan Ezeiruaku
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Ezeiruaku at Round 3, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at No. 77 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick96 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Taking Kaleb Johnson in the 96th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jaxson Dart
They reached into another round for Jaxson Dart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick107 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor is a better player than Round 4, Pick 6 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138 Rnd5 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in the 138th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick148 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash in pick No. 148 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick219 Rnd7 Jalen Rivers
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Rivers in slot 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220 Rnd7 Nohl Williams
A big swing on Nohl Williams at the 220th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick238 Rnd7 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at No. 238 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
They left a pile of value on the table to take RJ Harvey this early at pick 239. It fills a real need, too.
