Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Princewill Umanmielen at the Round 7 slot. The Patriots jumped the board by 44 and dared it to prove them wrong. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Ponds at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In pick 28 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 CJ Allen
A slide stopped in the 60th pick, with CJ Allen worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick92 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
A tidy bit of business in No. 92, where Eli Stowers graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick123 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
The board had D'Angelo Ponds higher than the 123rd overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick128 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 128 with a little surplus value in Chase Bisontis. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick168 Rnd5 Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart at slot 168 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick195 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in No. 195 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
They talked themselves into Trey Zuhn III at the 206th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216 Rnd7 Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at Round 7, Pick 2 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
A conviction pick on J. Michael Sturdivant at pick No. 242 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
