You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The 49ers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.

However the rest shakes out, Washington Jr. at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

They will need Roberts to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
