Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Buccaneers a B-. The Buccaneers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 122 on Tyreak Sapp a full 99 spots early.
They banked enough surplus on Taaffe to cover a lot of smaller sins. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In pick No. 22 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick54
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Taaffe at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick86
Rnd3
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in Round 3, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tyreak Sapp
They reached into another round for Tyreak Sapp, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Malik Hartford
The board had Malik Hartford higher than the 161st overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Tony Grimes
Tony Grimes at the 200th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Turner Corcoran
A wild overpay on Turner Corcoran in the 235th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
