Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Bears this weekend: D-.

The Tommi Hill pick is the one that will follow the Bears into the fall. They took him 45 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

The Higgins pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In the 21st overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
A tidy little value on Landon Jackson in pick No. 33, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick34 Rnd2 Shilo Sanders
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shilo Sanders in Round 2, Pick 2, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at the 35th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick52 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in slot 52 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick63 Rnd2 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at pick No. 63 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick73 Rnd3 Earnest Greene III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Earnest Greene III well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick95 Rnd3 Jay Higgins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jay Higgins in the 95th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98 Rnd4 Jacobee Bryant
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jacobee Bryant at No. 98. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102 Rnd4 Jordan Hancock
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Hancock a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore in the 112th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick130 Rnd5 Xavier Truss
They paid up for Xavier Truss at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131 Rnd5 Benjamin Yurosek
Benjamin Yurosek at pick 131 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick137 Rnd5 Caden Prieskorn
A reach on Caden Prieskorn in pick No. 137; the board had better options right there. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick162 Rnd6 Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd6 Nic Anderson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nic Anderson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169 Rnd6 Jordan James
Jordan James in slot 169 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175 Rnd6 Steve Linton
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Steve Linton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180 Rnd6 Tommi Hill
Value said wait; Tommi Hill in the 180th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick183 Rnd6 Will Sheppard
They reached into another round for Will Sheppard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Keaten Wade
A conviction pick on Keaten Wade at No. 189 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick195 Rnd7 KJ Jefferson
KJ Jefferson in pick 195 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick212 Rnd7 Ali Jennings
They liked Ali Jennings enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
