Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for King: D-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Texans did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Rome Odunze
Circle this one: Rome Odunze at Round 2, Pick 10 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jaylen Wright
A reach on Jaylen Wright in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick No. 63 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick64 Rnd2 Cade Stover
A conviction pick on Cade Stover at No. 64 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jonah Elliss
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Elliss at slot 86, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at the 94th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in slot 95 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Josh Newton
They took Josh Newton at par in pick No. 123, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124 Rnd4 James Williams
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at pick 124 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127 Rnd4 Christian Jones
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick188 Rnd6 Kalen King
Kalen King in the 188th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tayvion Robinson
Tayvion Robinson at Round 7, Pick 27 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
