Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Collin Oliver in pick No. 242. The final tally is a middling C.

Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The veteran additions, Jonathan Allen chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Landon Jackson
In the 24th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in pick No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick149 Rnd5 Tez Johnson
You do not let a wide receiver like Tez Johnson reach No. 149 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 15 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick197 Rnd6 Ollie Gordon II
Taking Ollie Gordon II in the 197th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199 Rnd6 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt at pick No. 199 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick207 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 207th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke Lachey at Round 6, Pick 32 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick235 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
The board had Cam Jackson higher than the Round 7 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick242 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at the 242nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
