Rocket DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears won the night they stopped Restrepo from sliding. Grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Xavier Restrepo got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty is a better player than No. 10 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in slot 39, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 9 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick72
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Xavier Restrepo
The board fumbled Xavier Restrepo all the way to pick No. 149, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197
Rnd6
Akili Arnold
Akili Arnold at pick 197 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick235
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
No edge and no loss on Seth McLaughlin in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Clay Webb
They took Clay Webb at par in the 242nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
