Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueA NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The Patriots bet big and early on Lorenzo Styles Jr., 192 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

It is not that Hunter is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at No. 34 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick35 Rnd2 Will Johnson
Somehow Will Johnson was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 3, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick59 Rnd2 Travis Hunter
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Travis Hunter in pick No. 59 leaves edge rusher for later.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in slot 72 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 77th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick78 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in the 78th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98 Rnd4 Mitchell Evans
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mitchell Evans in slot 98, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp in the 109th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122 Rnd4 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at No. 122 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Tre Harris
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach pick 154 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186 Rnd6 J.C. Davis
Circle this one: J.C. Davis at Round 6, Pick 26 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194 Rnd7 Garrett Nussmeier
A quarterback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick211 Rnd7 Lorenzo Styles Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Lorenzo Styles Jr. this early at the 211th pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick218 Rnd7 Xavier Restrepo
They will replay Xavier Restrepo at pick No. 218 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
