Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Nolen: A-. You build a draft on nights like this. Walter Nolen had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The George Pickens deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
Kelvin Banks Jr. in the 26th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick34
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the 34th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick46
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Taking Colston Loveland in slot 46 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick66
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
They robbed the room for Harold Perkins Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in pick 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91
Rnd3
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans at pick No. 91 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick146
Rnd5
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick196
Rnd7
Walter Nolen
They will replay Walter Nolen at the 196th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
