Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Saints: B-. The Saints clearly saw something nobody else did in Collin Oliver, taking him 37 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Grant where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In No. 9 they get a problem off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Somehow Kenneth Grant was still sitting there in the 40th pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in slot 71 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in pick 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
They paid sticker price for Miles Frazier in the 112th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
A tidy little value on Jeffrey Bassa in Round 4, Pick 29, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick184
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
They will replay RJ Harvey at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford in No. 248 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick254
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at pick No. 254 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
