Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
C+
ValueD+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Ravens: C+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Ravens reached some 45 spots for RJ Oben, and value like that does not grow back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Donovan Jackson
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They jumped the gun on Tate Ratledge, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jacob Parrish
They talked themselves into Jacob Parrish at the 91st pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129
Rnd4
Brashard Smith
No drama and no debate, Brashard Smith went about where he belonged in slot 129. The roster fit checks out.
Pick136
Rnd4
Logan Brown
They liked Logan Brown enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 34. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
A reach on Vernon Broughton in pick 176; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183
Rnd6
RJ Oben
RJ Oben at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick203
Rnd6
Luke Elzinga
Luke Elzinga in pick 203 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick210
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
They reached into another round for Cam Jackson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
A wild overpay on Isaac TeSlaa in No. 212, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick243
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
They left a pile of value on the table to take Hayden Conner this early at the 243rd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
