Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Dolphins lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Omar Cooper Jr. tumbling to the Dolphins in slot 87 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.

The Stephens pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is not that Stukes is a bad player; it is that the Dolphins had louder needs to answer first.

It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Joshua Josephs
In pick No. 28 they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 38th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick43 Rnd2 Zion Young
No edge and no loss on Zion Young in the 43rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Michael Taaffe. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick87 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
They barely believed it either: Omar Cooper Jr. still on the board at slot 87. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Treydan Stukes, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick111 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
They left a pile of value on the table to take Beau Stephens this early at No. 111. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick129 Rnd4 Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost at pick 129 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in pick No. 149 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jimmy Rolder
Jimmy Rolder slid further than he should have, and the 227th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They liked Trey Zuhn III enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 23. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
