FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the 49ers. The 49ers went off the board in a big way for Luke Lachey, 70 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Cornelius value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 11th pick they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in pick 99 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at Round 4, Pick 11 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Luke Lachey
They reached into another round for Luke Lachey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
A clean, defensible pick in No. 138 with a little surplus value in Jeffrey Bassa. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd4
Savion Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 139 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Steal is underselling it; Ajani Cornelius at Round 5, Pick 20 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Cobee Bryant
The board had Cobee Bryant higher than pick No. 189, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick228
Rnd7
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at No. 228 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
A straight-up fair deal on Seth McLaughlin at slot 232, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick255
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
A big swing on Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
