FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Hairston: A-. When a board-topper like Maxwell Hairston slides to pick No. 189, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, with Travis Hunter leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In the 11th pick they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They robbed the room for Kenneth Grant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon in No. 75 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99
Rnd3
Armand Membou
You do not let an offensive lineman like Armand Membou reach the 99th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick112
Rnd4
Marcus Mbow
Circle this one: Marcus Mbow at slot 112 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Kyle Kennard
Steal is underselling it; Kyle Kennard at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at pick No. 139 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jihaad Campbell
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to pick 148, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick189
Rnd6
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 189 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick228
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
