Grand theft in the 148th pick: the 49ers steal Walker and grade out a B. When a board-topper like Jalon Walker slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In pick 11 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at the 44th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in pick No. 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100
Rnd3
Nick Emmanwori
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in Round 3, Pick 36, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kenneth Grant
The board fumbled Kenneth Grant all the way to No. 112, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at the 137th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jake Majors
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Dylan Fairchild
They will replay Dylan Fairchild at slot 170 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186
Rnd6
Savion Williams
Somehow Savion Williams was still sitting there in pick No. 186, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick230
Rnd7
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249
Rnd7
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 249th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
