The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Magee: D.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Magee had no business being available in the 251st overall pick, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

The cost of the Crumedy reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 20th pick they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at No. 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63 Rnd2 Javon Bullard
A slide stopped in pick No. 63, with Javon Bullard worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
The board fumbled Malachi Corley all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124 Rnd4 DJ James
Taking DJ James in pick 124 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick132 Rnd4 Erick All
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 32 with a little surplus value in Erick All. It fills a real need, too.
Pick135 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
They robbed the room for Matt Goncalves here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy in the 176th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick211 Rnd6 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at slot 211 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215 Rnd6 Blake Watson
Value with a capital V on Blake Watson in pick No. 215, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jordan Magee
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Magee at No. 251 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
