Draft Grade — Bears

Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick 4 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick10
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 10th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick21
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In slot 21 they get a go-to option on the outside, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at pick No. 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick53
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 53rd pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Corley a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They paid a round early for Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 11, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
A reach on Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Value said wait; Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 32 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick134
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the 134th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
