Ryan Poles Burner DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB+
The Bears turned the phones into found money: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
They will need Robinson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on safety with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick No. 6 they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick12
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In pick 12 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick21
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In the 21st pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Good price on Tyler Nubin in the 35th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick48
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 16 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A reach on Malachi Corley in slot 75; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 114 on Jaden Hicks with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
Pick116
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in pick 125 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
