Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Browns bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B+.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Browns committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That Reese pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Parker II lower, and that gap is the story.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 5 they get a long-term answer under center, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick22 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
A tidy little value on Chris Brazzell II in the 22nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick32 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 32nd pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick38 Rnd2 Caleb Lomu
By-the-book stuff, Caleb Lomu at No. 38 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Will Lee III
A tidy bit of business in slot 86, where Will Lee III graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ian Strong
They will replay Ian Strong at pick 94 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick96 Rnd3 Austin Siereveld
Austin Siereveld at Round 3, Pick 32 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick98 Rnd3 Joe Royer
They read the board right and Joe Royer was the payoff at pick No. 98. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 112th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick113 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A reach for Chase Bisontis in pick 113; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145 Rnd5 Logan Jones
Logan Jones in No. 145 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
They paid up for Jacob Rodriguez at slot 152 when waiting would have done the job. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
