Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers cashed the board's mistake on Mukuba: B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Andrew Mukuba, the 160th overall pick, roughly 80 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Every board in the league had Lachey lower, and that gap is the story. The Barron pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In pick 24 they get a rangy last line of defense, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick56 Rnd2 Harold Fannin Jr.
They will replay Harold Fannin Jr. at the 56th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88 Rnd3 Jahdae Barron
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Jahdae Barron adds a safety while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick125 Rnd4 Kaleb Johnson
The board fumbled Kaleb Johnson all the way to Round 4, Pick 24, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160 Rnd5 Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in pick No. 160, and they pounced on premier safety value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick175 Rnd5 Ricky White III
By-the-book stuff, Ricky White III at No. 175 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jalen Catalon
Jalen Catalon in the 185th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jonah Coleman
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Coleman at slot 200 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick213 Rnd6 Kevin Winston Jr.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick219 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They jumped the gun on Luke Lachey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick251 Rnd7 Elijhah Badger
Elijhah Badger in slot 251 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
