Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesB+ FutureA+
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Fifita: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Noah Fifita had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 7, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The cost of the Reese reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 29 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick32 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
In pick No. 32 they get a premier pass rusher. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in the 44th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Keith Abney II
The board had Keith Abney II higher than Round 3, Pick 32, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They took Jalon Kilgore at par in the 112th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick153 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Max Iheanachor. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in slot 177 is fair value, right on his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick224 Rnd7 Noah Fifita
They will replay Noah Fifita at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Khalil Barnes
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 16, where Khalil Barnes graded well above the range. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
