Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B- to prove it.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent No. 214 on Riley Mahlman, a name most had 21 spots down the list. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, McNeil-Warren at that price is a win they earned.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In No. 21 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They let Emmanuel McNeil-Warren come to them and pounced at slot 57. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter is a better player than pick No. 76 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
No drama and no debate, Zakee Wheatley went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
No edge and no loss on Nicholas Singleton in pick 99; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Drew Allar
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at Round 4, Pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick159 Rnd5 Treydan Stukes
A reasonable price with a little left over, Treydan Stukes in the 159th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick213 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
They liked J. Michael Sturdivant enough to skip the value, taking him in the 213th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick214 Rnd6 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in No. 214 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick224 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
A big swing on Jordan Hall at pick 237, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
