MSalvant DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Markis Deal at the 224th overall pick is 53 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Barham pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 21st pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 21, with Emmanuel Pregnon worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Zakee Wheatley. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
They paid sticker price for Nicholas Singleton in pick No. 85, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99
Rnd3
Tacario Davis
A reach on Tacario Davis in No. 99; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
A quiet steal in slot 121: Jaishawn Barham for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135
Rnd4
Drew Allar
By-the-book stuff, Drew Allar at No. 135 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in pick 159; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Riley Mahlman
A conviction pick on Riley Mahlman at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jordan Hall
A wild overpay on Jordan Hall in Round 6, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick224
Rnd7
Markis Deal
A big swing on Markis Deal at slot 224, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jalil Farooq
They paid up for Jalil Farooq at the 237th pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
