If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Demon Clowney at No. 243 is 92 spots clear of where he belonged. A F, plain and simple.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
