Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Commanders: B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Justin Eboigbe at Round 7, Pick 8 is 123 spots clear of where he belonged.

They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In pick 22 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
A conviction pick on Kingsley Suamataia at slot 36 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
They took Kamari Lassiter at par in Round 2, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71 Rnd3 Rod Moore
They paid up for Rod Moore at the 71st pick when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick86 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
A reach on Payton Wilson in the 86th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick100 Rnd3 Graham Barton
Graham Barton at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick107 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Danny Stutsman at linebacker with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick122 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in the 122nd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick144 Rnd5 AJ Barner
AJ Barner in pick 144 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185 Rnd6 Mike Sainristil
Circle this one: Mike Sainristil at No. 185 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick200 Rnd6 Omar Speights
A big swing on Omar Speights at the 200th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick228 Rnd7 Justin Eboigbe
They talked themselves into Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 228, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
