Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a B+.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 14 is 112 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Getting Cowing where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

Spending an early pick on defensive back with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Kamren Kinchens
In the 28th pick they get a two-high chess piece. More want than need.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A conviction pick on Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Amarius Mims well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
They paid sticker price for Malachi Corley in the 60th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71 Rnd3 Terrion Arnold
A want over a need in No. 71: Terrion Arnold adds a defensive back while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick83 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at pick 83 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick91 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
A straight-up fair deal on Danny Stutsman at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick100 Rnd3 Mohamed Kamara
A wild overpay on Mohamed Kamara in the 100th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
A reach for Jaheim Bell in slot 107; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119 Rnd4 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 119th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at pick No. 122 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144 Rnd5 Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett in Round 5, Pick 8 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick185 Rnd6 Omar Speights
A real head-scratcher, Omar Speights in pick 185 is miles ahead of his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick228 Rnd7 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in No. 228 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick234 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson at pick No. 234 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
