Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Justin Eboigbe; the Commanders did not wait, grabbing him 109 spots ahead at slot 228. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Eichenberg pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A reach for Jordan Morgan in the 34th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick36 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 36, where Terrion Arnold graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick39 Rnd2 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at No. 39 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick42 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
The board had cheaper options than Kingsley Suamataia at pick 42, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
A real head-scratcher, Payton Wilson in the 71st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick85 Rnd3 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at Round 3, Pick 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tory Horton
By-the-book stuff, Tory Horton at the 94th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Max Melton
Max Melton at No. 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 107th overall pick on Tommy Eichenberg with quarterback unsolved.
Pick131 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in pick 131 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144 Rnd5 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in Round 5, Pick 8 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jaden Hicks
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick228 Rnd7 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 228 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232 Rnd7 Gavin Bartholomew
A big swing on Gavin Bartholomew at slot 232, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson in pick No. 255 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
