FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Raiders: B-. The Raiders went off the board in a big way for John Williams, 53 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Milroe to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 6 they get a workhorse for the backfield at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 14 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jayden Higgins at the 68th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108
Rnd4
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at No. 108 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick118
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mello Dotson well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 180 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
John Williams
Value said wait; John Williams in Round 6, Pick 37 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw slipping to pick No. 215 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick222
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They talked themselves into Teddye Buchanan at No. 222, and the board did not agree. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
