FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Nobody else had Thor Griffith anywhere near No. 252. The 49ers did, by 62 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 11 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick18
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In No. 18 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick21
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In the 21st overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Good price on Derrick Harmon in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 43 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick100
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in Round 3, Pick 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at Round 4, Pick 11 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Logan Brown
The board had cheaper options than Logan Brown at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
They jumped the gun on Tommi Hill, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ben Sauls
Ben Sauls at slot 160 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick227
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They reached into another round for Thomas Fidone II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick249
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers in pick 249 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in pick No. 252 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
