Draft Grade — Broncos

FutureB
The Broncos turned the phones into found money: B+. The Broncos spent real capital to be 61 picks early on Trajan Jeffcoat, and the board is going to hold them to it.
They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback went begging.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick60
Rnd2
DJ James
DJ James at Round 2, Pick 28 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Good price on Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 76, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick78
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 3 slot on Khyree Jackson with quarterback unsolved.
Pick86
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 86th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Cam Hart
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cam Hart at cornerback with quarterback open.
Pick92
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A reach for Zak Zinter in the 92nd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 93. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94
Rnd3
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at No. 94 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Theo Johnson
Value said wait; Theo Johnson in slot 97 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 1 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
They reached a country mile for Mohamed Kamara at the 102nd pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A reach on Cedric Gray in the 103rd overall pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick107
Rnd4
Mike Sainristil
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Mike Sainristil, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick109
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 9 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121
Rnd4
James Williams
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at No. 121, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick136
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick145
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
They did well to land Ainias Smith in pick No. 145, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
They paid up for Dylan Laube at slot 147 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 174th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They paid sticker price for Jared Wiley in the 203rd overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick207
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
A quiet steal in slot 207: Curtis Jacobs for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247
Rnd7
Trajan Jeffcoat
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trajan Jeffcoat this early at Round 7, Pick 27. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
