Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureD-
The Vikings drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: F.

Nobody had Jalen Green this high, and it is not close. The Vikings reached 43 spots to get him at Round 5, Pick 29. It bottoms out at a F.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.

There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick6 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In pick 6 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick11 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 11th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in slot 49, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 66 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70 Rnd3 Trey Benson
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 6. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in slot 71, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 89 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Solomon at No. 108, value and slot in agreement. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick130 Rnd4 James Williams
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148 Rnd5 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick151 Rnd5 Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers at the 151st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
They went early on Curtis Jacobs in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jalen Green
Jalen Green in the 165th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick179 Rnd6 Isaiah Davis
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Davis at pick 179 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Sheridan Jones
They jumped the gun on Sheridan Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick230 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick254 Rnd7 Demorie Tate
Demorie Tate at No. 254 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
