Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Colts.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Colts started one anyway for Jay Toia, 136 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Nwankpa pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Shavon Revel Jr.
In the 13th pick they get a sticky cover corner, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They jumped the gun on Tyler Warren, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jordan James
Taking Jordan James in Round 3, Pick 13 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113 Rnd4 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in No. 113 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick114 Rnd4 Connor Colby
A real head-scratcher, Connor Colby in the 114th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Xavier Nwankpa
A curious use of the 136th overall pick. Wide receiver, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Xavier Nwankpa did not.
Pick155 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 155 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jay Toia
They talked themselves into Jay Toia at Round 6, Pick 14, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick210 Rnd6 Ben Yurosek
The board had cheaper options than Ben Yurosek at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
A wild overpay on Tony Grimes in the 227th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
