A costly weekend of dealing drags the Raiders to a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Raiders reached some 40 spots for Howard Cross III, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Gray. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In pick 25 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at Round 2, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
A straight-up fair deal on Azareye'h Thomas at No. 58, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
They talked themselves into Jalen Milroe at slot 68, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick108 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
A slide stopped in the 108th pick, with Kevin Winston Jr. worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick143 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
They paid sticker price for Trevor Etienne in the 143rd overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at slot 166 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick180 Rnd6 Howard Cross III
A wild overpay on Howard Cross III in the 180th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
The board had Jason Marshall Jr. higher than the Round 6 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Donovan Edwards at the 215th overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick222 Rnd7 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray in No. 222 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
