The 49ers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Kyle Hergel in the 251st pick. Put together, it is a D.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Mims value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

They have staked the next five years on Michael Penix Jr., which is the only story that really matters here.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
