FutureA+
The phones sank the Raiders this weekend: C+. The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The final tally is a middling C+.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Siereveld pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. The Reese value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Hit on Arvell Reese and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In No. 13 they get a downhill hitter at safety, and a steal at that.
Pick31
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
They took Kayden McDonald at par in slot 33, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick67
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Austin Siereveld well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Harold Perkins Jr. in the 102nd overall pick leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Pick111
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
A reach for Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick173
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 173rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick183
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
By-the-book stuff, Monroe Mills at pick No. 183 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick187
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
No edge and no loss on Xavier Nwankpa in Round 6, Pick 7; it is a wash and a sensible one. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick217
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
