Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B+ weekend for the Raiders. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Spending an early pick on linebacker with wide receiver and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Jackson Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In No. 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the 22nd pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald at pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
A surprising call. With wide receiver and tight end still to address, they spent the 55th overall pick on Sonny Styles, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick67
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
They went early on Caleb Tiernan in pick No. 67, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick102
Rnd4
Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
Kenyatta Jackson Jr. in Round 4, Pick 2 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith in slot 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick134
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
By-the-book stuff, Davison Igbinosun at pick 177 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick182
Rnd6
Monroe Mills
They jumped the gun on Monroe Mills, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
A conviction pick on Xavier Nwankpa at the 185th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick219
Rnd7
Makhi Hughes
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Makhi Hughes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick221
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at No. 221 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
