Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Cowboys this weekend: B.

The Cowboys spent real capital to be 41 picks early on Caden Curry, and the board is going to hold them to it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Getting Taylor where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They will answer for taking edge rusher early while wide receiver, quarterback and other spots went begging. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Dillon Thieneman
In slot 18 they get a two-high chess piece, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Pick25 Rnd1 Colton Hood
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 49th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89 Rnd3 Caden Curry
Value said wait; Caden Curry in the 89th overall pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis at pick 92 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112 Rnd4 Mikail Kamara
A surprising call. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 112 on Mikail Kamara, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kaleb Elarms-Orr
A big swing on Kaleb Elarms-Orr at slot 152, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 37 with a little surplus value in Aamil Wagner. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180 Rnd5 Keagen Trost
They took Keagen Trost at par in the 180th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick218 Rnd7 J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor in pick No. 218 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
