Hampton should have been long gone. The Seahawks pounced, and earned a B-. Somebody in pick No. 50 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Seahawks sat still while Omarion Hampton, the No. 30 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In the 18th pick they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
Pick50
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in pick 50 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick52
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marcus Mbow in slot 52. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jack Bech
A quiet steal in the 82nd overall pick: Jack Bech for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker slipping to pick No. 92 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick137
Rnd4
Cody Simon
They did well to land Cody Simon in No. 137, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They paid sticker price for Chase Lundt in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonah Monheim. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Jay Higgins worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
A tidy bit of business in the 234th overall pick, where Jordan Hancock graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
