Draft Grade — Saints
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
The Saints let Brooks fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Saints watched Tahj Brooks slide 52 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

Oben has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at slot 34. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
By-the-book stuff, JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
This one needs a full-page explanation: Quinn Ewers in pick 71, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Slater well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
A clean, defensible pick in the 131st pick with a little surplus value in Jeffrey Bassa. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick184 Rnd6 RJ Oben
RJ Oben at the 184th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick248 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at No. 248 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick254 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in Round 7, Pick 38 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
