The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Steven Parker, 143 picks early at the 228th pick.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the 28th overall pick with a little surplus value in James Pearce Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick60
Rnd2
Isaiah Bond
A reach for Isaiah Bond in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick102
Rnd3
Chimere Dike
A straight-up fair deal on Chimere Dike at pick 102, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick130
Rnd4
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at Round 4, Pick 28 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228
Rnd7
Steven Parker
Steven Parker at No. 228 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244
Rnd7
Quinn Carroll
Quinn Carroll at Round 7, Pick 28 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
