Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Browns fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Browns came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Zuhn III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Sellers at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a No. 1 receiver, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
In slot 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early.
Pick56
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Good price on Dillon Thieneman in pick 56, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
LaNorris Sellers
They let LaNorris Sellers come to them and pounced at the 71st overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
A wild overpay on DJ McKinney in No. 106, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141
Rnd5
Chase Bisontis
A slide stopped in the 141st pick, with Chase Bisontis worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick145
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
They jumped the gun on Jaden Greathouse, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 204 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick216
Rnd7
Mark Fletcher Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Mark Fletcher Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick244
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
They paid up for Brett Norfleet at the 244th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
