Draft Grade — Saints

FutureB-
The phones sank the Saints this weekend: C-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with MJ Sherman in Round 7, Pick 38. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Collins.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
They paid sticker price for Tetairoa McMillan in pick 9, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
By-the-book stuff, Jihaad Campbell at Round 2, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick71
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick No. 71 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick93
Rnd3
David Walker
They jumped the gun on David Walker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at No. 99 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. slid further than he should have, and slot 112 is lovely value for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
They talked themselves into Ty Robinson at No. 131, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick154
Rnd5
CJ Dippre
CJ Dippre at the 154th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick184
Rnd6
Garrett Dellinger
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Dellinger this early at the 184th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
A reach for Bilhal Kone in pick 219; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A slide stopped in pick No. 246, with Isaac TeSlaa worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick248
Rnd7
Antario Brown
Antario Brown at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
MJ Sherman
MJ Sherman in slot 254 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
