Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bengals a B-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bengals shredded theirs for Hayden Hatten. He came off 104 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They banked enough surplus on Logan Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In slot 18 they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 Graham Barton
No edge and no loss on Graham Barton in Round 2, Pick 17; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick80 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in pick 80 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick116 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at the 116th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148 Rnd5 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in pick No. 148 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick175 Rnd5 Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips in the 175th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick196 Rnd6 Christian Jones
A reach for Christian Jones in pick 196; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235 Rnd7 Kenny Logan Jr.
Nice patience on Kenny Logan Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick252 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Hatten in pick No. 252, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
