Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a B+, for the Raiders.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They are betting Washington Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Ponds to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st pick they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
They did well to land Arvell Reese in the Round 1 slot, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick41 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 9 with a little surplus value in Dillon Thieneman. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick67 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the 67th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick84 Rnd3 Mike Washington Jr.
A big swing on Mike Washington Jr. at pick 84, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
No edge and no loss on Bryce Lance in pick No. 110; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
They paid up for Chris McClellan at No. 117 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick134 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at slot 134 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marlin Klein. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dalton Johnson
A reach for Dalton Johnson in No. 185; a little patience would have been rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick219 Rnd7 Isaiah Nwokobia
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Nwokobia at the 219th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
