Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Lauck from sliding. Grade: B. The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Trevor Lauck fell into No. 165.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. If Norfleet pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
In No. 20 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51
Rnd2
Yhonzae Pierre
Yhonzae Pierre in Round 2, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85
Rnd3
KJ Bolden
Taking KJ Bolden in slot 85 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Will Echoles
Will Echoles at pick No. 122 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Trevor Lauck
They will replay Trevor Lauck at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182
Rnd6
Coen Echols
Coen Echols at pick 182 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick187
Rnd6
James Smith
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Smith. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick211
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet in the 211th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick249
Rnd7
Tunmise Adeleye
A reach on Tunmise Adeleye in slot 249; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick257
Rnd7
DeSean Bishop
A reach for DeSean Bishop in the 257th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
