The 49ers lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story.

The 49ers did not so much draft Luke Kandra as overpay for him, 31 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Sampson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

So much rides on Jahdae Barron that the real verdict is a season or two away.

By-the-book stuff, Josh Simmons at the 11th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. More want than need.

Jalon Walker in the 41st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

No drama and no debate, Kyle Kennard went about where he belonged in No. 75. It patches a soft spot without any drama.

A big swing on Charles Grant at slot 76, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
