Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Broncos bet the future on McCarthy. The board says B+.

The Broncos spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him. McGlothern falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jaylen Wright
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in Round 3, Pick 12, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84 Rnd3 Austin Booker
Good price on Austin Booker in No. 84, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 89th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick No. 93, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick121 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Fair-plus on Matt Goncalves, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick136 Rnd4 Brennan Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Brennan Jackson in pick 136 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
You do not let a wide receiver like Johnny Wilson reach the 145th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick147 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 147th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick181 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at slot 181 is a fall that decides a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick203 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A reach on Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
