Mancil DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sampson should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Dylan Sampson tumbling to the Chargers in the 183rd overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In No. 22 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in pick No. 55, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick86
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in pick 86 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Value with a capital V on Jared Wilson in slot 124, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick159
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at Round 5, Pick 20 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick177
Rnd5
Jackson Slater
Circle this one: Jackson Slater at the 177th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick183
Rnd6
Dylan Sampson
They barely believed it either: Dylan Sampson still on the board at the 183rd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick201
Rnd6
Kevin Winston Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick215
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
They went early on Cam Jackson in Round 6, Pick 37, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick220
Rnd7
Brashard Smith
Taking Brashard Smith in pick 220 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick253
Rnd7
Clay Webb
A clean, defensible pick in the 253rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Clay Webb. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
