FutureA
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a D for the Ravens. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Ravens did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 14 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kamari Ramsey
They paid sticker price for Kamari Ramsey in the 36th pick, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick42
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt at Round 2, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Value with a capital V on Eli Stowers in the 80th overall pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick115
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 115 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Terion Stewart. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick160
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
They took DJ Campbell at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick173
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
Fair-plus on Earnest Greene III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234
Rnd7
London Humphreys
No drama and no debate, London Humphreys went about where he belonged in the 234th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Damari Brown
Damari Brown at slot 249 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Raheem Anderson II
By-the-book stuff, Raheem Anderson II at No. 252 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
